Pacemaker / Implantable Defibrillator

Cardiac arrhythmias are extremely diverse. If they become a health problem, a pacemaker or defibrillator can help as a therapy component. The tasks of these two small devices are somewhat different:

While a pacemaker continuously monitors the heartbeat and ensures an optimal beat rate and protects against a slow heartbeat, a defibrillator only emits one or more electric shocks in a life-threatening situation when the heartbeat is much too fast, in order to bring the heart back on track. Over the past decades, pacemakers and defibrillators have become much more complex. Their aftercare is not only about functionality, but also about optimized programming, which guarantees the ideal cardiac performance and thus more resilience in your everyday life according to the situation.

Aftercare for pacemakers or defibrillators:
How does it work for us?

In Cardiopraxis we offer such a comprehensive aftercare for your used pacemaker or defibrillator close meshed: For pacemakers these important controls take place every 6 months, for defibrillators every 3 months. The examination, which lasts about 10 to 15 minutes, is carried out lying down with the upper body free and does not involve any invasive procedures.

First, the attending physician records the electrical processes in your heart muscle with an ECG. Depending on which device supports your heart, we then use the appropriate programming device – of course we have devices from all common manufacturers. This programming device contacts your pacemaker or defibrillator via a magnet and the test can begin. Did cardiac arrhythmia occur in the past?

Are the pacemaker or defibrillator electrodes intact? Is the current programming still useful? Must the battery be replaced? – These are questions to which the control examination provides answers. What is special about Cardiopraxis is that in order to guarantee optimum programming, we measure your circulation with the unique FINAPRES method in so-called biventricular systems, for example, during the adjustment of your device.

The aftercare of people with pacemakers or defibrillators is one of the most frequent examinations in Cardiopraxis: Our team of physicians performs about 1,500 checks every year!
