Barorezeptorsensitivität

Measurement of baroreceptor sensitivity

There are small sensory bodies in your vascular walls that constantly measure blood pressure – so-called baroreceptors. Not only do they measure, they also regulate when needed. If your blood pressure is high and the vascular walls expand, the baroreceptors send signals to the brain. The result is a counter impulse: heart rate and blood pressure drop. Disorders of baroreceptor sensitivity play a role especially in the evaluation of high blood pressure and disorders of consciousness. How active these baroreceptors are in your body can be measured easily and quickly in cardiopractice.

How do we measure baroreceptor sensitivity?

As a rule, we measure your baroreceptor sensitivity as part of our holistic circulation measurement using the Finapres® method. A plastic ring (cuff) is placed around your middle finger and pressure is exerted, which is completely painless. A light sensor determines the blood pressure and heart rate and calculates your baroreceptor sensitivity. Together with the other values, the doctor receives a comprehensive picture of your cardiovascular system.

When are we going to perform the baroreceptor sensitivity test?

This test  mainly performed if you suffer from dizziness and fainting spells. It also provides important information on blood pressure disorders.

In the two Cardiopraxis branches, our team of physicians carries out around 2,000 baroreceptor sensitivity measurements annually as part of our holistic circulation measurement using the Finapres® method.
